Cardinals get high grades for selection of QB Josh Rosen

Cardinals get high grades for selection of QB Josh Rosen

The only part of the NFL draft that has been completed is the first round. The Arizona Cardinals have made just one selection, having traded up to acquire quarterback Josh Rosen. They have gotten high grades and glowing reviews for their pick so far.

Here is what different media outlets have been saying:

The Cardinals get an A from The Ringer.

Rosen is the most polished passer in this quarterback class, advanced in his footwork, throwing mechanics, and understanding of coverages. When he’s forced to move off his spot to throw, things often break down, but when he drops back and throws on time, it’s a thing of beauty.

They get an A from Bleacher Report.

In three years, we may be wondering what other teams were thinking when they let Rosen fall to the Cardinals.

SI.com gives the Cardinals an A as well.

Rosen was an acute field-reader at UCLA and plays a timing-and-rhythm brand of football, which usually translates well to the pros. It’s one reason he’s known for his ability to throw receivers open. He is a great fit for offensive coordinator Mike McCoy’s multifaceted passing game.

For CBS Sports, it is the same.

They make the smart move to go up and get the guy who might be the most NFL-ready passer.

Yahoo Sports doesn’t give an actual letter grade, but it is clear they like the Cardinals’ pick.

The Cardinals need a quarterback and went all in when the best signal caller in the draft fell to 10. Bravo.

Josh Rosen falls to Cardinals in another mock draft

Josh Rosen falls to Cardinals in another mock draft

The NFL draft is Thursday night and final mock drafts have been published. In them, there are some new trends, trends that should get many fans excited. The Arizona Cardinals have a need at quarterback but seem to be out of reach to land the top four prospects of Josh Allen, Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold and Josh Rosen. However, recent mock drafts have UCLA’s Rosen slipping in the draft and the Cardinals being the beneficiary. NFL Draft Scout’s Rob Rang’s final mock draft is yet another with Rosen landing with the Cardinals.

This would be an ideal scenario for the Cardinals and one that may require a trade up in the club really does want Rosen, the most polished passer in this draft. He could slip on draft day, however, amid concerns about his competitiveness and struggles with durability at UCLA, where he missed action in two of his three years as a starter.

This would be ideal for the Cardinals, although it would wreck the trend in recent years of teams having to trade up to draft a quarterback. If Arizona stands pat, they could get leapfrogged again. If Rosen is on their radar, they might have to move up.

Rosen is perhaps the best true passer in the draft class. He has the arm strength and accuracy. He has experience under center and can read defenses. He does have durability concerns and some are worried about his demeanor in the locker room and his dedication to the game.
