CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) — Reynaldo Rivera homered and had two hits, and Jesus Rodriguez allowed just three hits over seven innings as the West Michigan Whitecaps beat the Cedar Rapids Kernels 4-1 on Friday.
Rodriguez (2-1) picked up the win after he struck out three and walked three while allowing one run.
Cedar Rapids started the scoring in the first inning. After reaching base on a walk, Akil Baddoo scored on a double by Alex Kirilloff.
The Whitecaps took the lead for good with three runs in the eighth inning. Joey Morgan hit an RBI single, driving in Alexis Garcia en route to the two-run lead.
The Whitecaps tacked on another run in the ninth when Rivera hit a solo home run.
Rickey Ramirez (0-1) went two innings, allowing two runs and three hits in the Midwest League game. Wladimir Pinto pitched two scoreless innings for his fifth save of the season.
