Arizona high school and college players taken in 2018 MLB draft

The 2018 MLB draft was held over three days, June 4-6 in Secaucus, New Jersey.

For the state of Arizona, the draft was highlighted by two high school players going in the top 20.

Glendale Mountain Ridge pitcher Matthew Liberatore was chosen No. 16 overall by the Tampa Bay Rays. Three picks later, Phoenix Sandra Day O’Connor slugger Nolan Gorman taken by the St. Louis Cardinals.

The Arizona Wildcats had a school-record six players taken in the first 10 rounds.

Arizona State’s first draft pick didn’t happen until the fifth round, but overall, five ASU players were selected, up from one in 2017.

GCU had its highest draft pick since 1989 when outfielder Tim Salmon went to the Angels 69th overall.
