Following a disappointing series against the Marlins at home, the Mets needed a win to turn things around, and that’s just what they got. The Mets defeated the first-place Brewers 5-0 to open up the four-game set at Miller Park. Steven Matz had his best start of the season as he threw six scoreless innings, only allowing seven batters to reach base and striking out three.

Much like Matz, the Mets’ offense had a good night with every position player who started the game getting at least one hit against the Brew Crew. Tonight was the first time that the Mets had double-digit hits since Saturday night against Arizona. The star of the night was the smiley Brandon Nimmo, who went 4-4 with a walk, coming up only a homer shy of the cycle. While he didn’t drive in any runs, Nimmo scored two of the five for the Mets. Wilmer Flores and Asdrubal Cabrera drove in most of the team’s runs tonight with two apiece.

Thankfully, the bullpen had a much better time tonight than they did yesterday, blanking the Brewers over the final three innings to secure the shutout victory. Paul Sewald did the majority of the work, tossing two perfect innings in the seventh and eighth.
