PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — Dominic Smith was the talk of the town when spring training opened up last month. But now, as he continues to nurse a strained quad, he’s fading into spring obscurity.

The Mets’ rookie first baseman has been limited to a single spring game this year because of the quad injury he suffered in the second Grapefruit League game of the season. While we know he’s taking batting practice and seeing live pitching, his status is in doubt as he remains out and the first base job looks more and more like it belongs to veteran Adrian Gonzalez.

Smith is out of the lineup yet again for both games of the split-squad doubleheader Tuesday. He’s not in the lineup or on the active roster for Game 1 and he’s not on the travel roster for Game 2.

Gonzalez is hitting just .192 this spring, but the Mets don’t seem worried about the perennially slow-starter. They’re counting on the veteran finding his bat, just as he always did with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Here is the Mets’ lineup for the first game against the Houston Astros (1:10 p.m., ET at First Data Field) and the travel roster for the second game against the Washington Nationals (7:05 p.m.m ET at Ballpark of the Palm Beaches):
