5. Didi Gregorius, SS

Yankees lineup notes

Aroldis Chapman is scheduled to appear sometime after Sabathia, who is making his second spring start (he pitched on the minor league side, against a mix of minor and major league Yankees last time out). Miguel Cabrera is on the trip from Lakeland and batting third for Detroit.

Chance Adams starts for the Yankees on Wednesday against Baltimore at Sarasota.

Neil Walker

Signed on Monday, Neil Walker is expected to work on the minor league side today and Wednesday, and could be in a Grapefruit League game as early as Thursday.

“We think he’s ahead of the game physically because he has been at that (free agents) camp (in Bradenton),’’ said manager Aaron Boone, adding that Walker has seen live pitching in sim games there, but not in the last few days. “He’s actually in a pretty good place as far as up to speed with things. He should hit the ground running pretty well.’’

More Walker

Boone spoke of Walker’s versatility and expects to give him some looks at third base and at first base. And though it’s anticipated that he’ll eventually assume the regular second base job, “I wouldn’t say he’s coming in here as that,’’ Boone said, presumably speaking of the immediate scene in camp. “We just feel he adds to our versatility and to our matchup capabilities. We got better today, I feel like (with Walker’s addition). Boone added that it’s “theoretically possible, but not a given’’ that he’d be the second baseman to start the season. Either way, “I expect him to be ready to go opening day.’’

MAKING PROGRESS: Despite mixed results in Yankees camp, Masahiro Tanaka feels better than last spring

COLUMN: Giancarlo Stanton, Aaron Judge give the Yankees a day to dream on

ROSTER QUESTIONS: Yankees roster questions: Tyler Wade over Gleyber Torres? Miguel Andujar or Brandon Drury?

Extra bases

GM Brian Cashman said the Yankees were not in on starter Lance Lynn, who makes his first appearance today for Minnesota after agreeing to a one-year, $12 million deal.

Jacoby Ellsbury (strained right oblique) is expected to begin hitting in the cages on Wednesday. He’s still questionable to be ready by opening day.

Aaron Judge, Greg Bird, and Brandon Drury are the big names going to Sarasota for Wednesday’s game against Baltimore.
